Here’s me surviving a frame building project with limited tools and even more limited woodworking abilities. I love the way frames contribute to the presentation of a painting, and they’re a lot of fun to make.

The actual ripple moldings are expertly made by Tom Matthews at ripplemolding.com. His work is the reason my frames came out looking presentable.

You can find Tom’s ripple moldings here.

Fun fact: my mom and dad attended the performance of Shostakovich’s 7th heard in the video. Leonard Bernstein was guest conducting in Chicago in 1988, and my dad went to see it while my mom stayed home to take care of my brother and I, ages 3 and 1. The concert was so good that my parents hired a babysitter so they could both see it the second night. I like to imagine it’s their coughs caught on tape.
